Renowned for its vibrant shopping centres and picturesque parks, Bromley has always been a popular location for south east Londoners and beyond.
Despite visiting this London borough previously—mainly for a trip to the Churchill Theatre—I thought it was about time to spend the entire day exploring its streets.
I stepped off the train at Bromley South at around 10am, when the sun was already casting a warm glow over the bustling town.
My first stop was the high street, where I chatted with residents about the upcoming election, and what changes they’d like to see to the beloved town centre.
I spoke to Carol Mollison – a woman who took the all-new Superloop bus from Shirely to Bromley town centre – and said it was “brilliant”.
Carol expressed that her main concern for the high street was the high number of empty units and closed stores, describing the situation as “a shame”.
One man, named Gus, said one thing he would like to see change would be an “improvement of safety”.
He told the News Shopper: “We have young people trying to steal from the shopping mall, and I think the safety could improve.
“I don’t think the local government is doing enough – the area looks the same as five years ago.
“It’s good, but I don’t see any improvements.”
The promise of a leisurely day in the sun was irresistible, and I then eagerly made my way towards the Glades Shopping Centre, a familiar haven for any shopping enthusiast.
Walking through the automatic doors, I was greeted by the cool air and the vibrant energy of shoppers milling about.
The first shop that caught my eye was Zara, its sleek mannequins displaying the latest summer collection.
I then went to beloved high street favourites H&M, Lush and New Look, and then headed to an independent shop Bromley Boutique, where I purchased a gorgeous summer dress.
After trying on a few outfits and indulging in some retail therapy, I made my way to the food court for a quick break.
The fresh bakery from the familiar Greggs store was impossible to resist.
I found a cosy bench on the high street, sipping my Coke Zero while people-watching—a favourite pastime of mine.
With shopping bags in hand, I decided it was time to enjoy the glorious weather and headed to Church House Gardens, a hidden gem just a short walk from the town centre.
The moment I entered the park, I was enveloped by the serene beauty of lush greenery and blooming flowers.
I strolled around the picturesque lake, watching ducks glide gracefully on the water’s surface.
Families were scattered across the park, children laughing and playing, their carefree joy infectious.
Finding a quiet spot under the gorgeous sunshine in nearby Bromley Park, I laid out a blanket and settled down with a good book.
The tranquillity of the park, punctuated by the distant hum of conversation and birds chirping, was the perfect backdrop for an afternoon of relaxation.
As the day ended, I felt a deep sense of contentment.
Bromley had offered the perfect blend of urban excitement and natural beauty.
With my shopping bags and a heart full of sunshine, I made my way back to the train station, already planning my next visit.
