Jake Turner is thrilled to be back guarding the goal for Gillingham and appreciates the support he received from Glenn Morris during his absence.

Turner has been the primary goalkeeper for Gillingham this season but was sidelined due to injury towards the end of February. He then had to wait over a month before reclaiming his position from experienced goalkeeper Glenn Morris.

The Gillingham goalkeeper returned after a brief hiatus due to injury. Saturday’s game against Barrow resulted in a clean sheet for Turner, marking his 14th clean sheet in 38 appearances.

“It’s fantastic to be back on the field; that’s why I love playing football – to be in the action,” Turner expressed.

“Glenn is an outstanding goalkeeper and person. I’ve learned a lot from him over the past two years, even during my time on the bench. We work together seamlessly and support each other. His experience is incredibly beneficial, and it’s a personal joy to be back playing,” Turner added.

The victory against Barrow was crucial for Gillingham, keeping their playoff aspirations alive. However, Turner emphasized the importance of focusing on each game as it comes rather than getting caught up in playoff thoughts.

“We can’t get ahead of ourselves regarding playoffs. While it’s our goal, we need to focus on the upcoming game and aim for a win. Victory is our priority, and we’re delighted with the recent win and clean sheet,” Turner remarked.

The win against Barrow followed consecutive defeats, showcasing Gillingham’s resilience against a defensively oriented opponent. Despite Barrow going down to 10 men early in the match, Gillingham managed to break through their defense and secure a victory.

“We anticipated Barrow’s defensive approach, especially with 10 men. Breaking them down was challenging, but we executed our game plan effectively. Scoring from runs in behind, which we’ve been practicing, was satisfying. The win was much-needed, and we’re all pleased with the result,” Turner concluded.
