Sussex Police have confirmed a girl from Hove has been arrested on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life.
Blatchington Mill School, in Nevill Road, Hove, is shut today (January 18) while an investigation takes place to establish the full extent of damage.
A spokesman for Sussex Police said: “We have arrested a 16-year-old girl on suspicion of arson following a fire at a school in Hove yesterday.
“No injuries were reported.
“An investigation was launched alongside the fire service and a 16-year-old girl from Hove was arrested on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life. She remains in custody at this time.
“Blatchington Mill School is fully co-operating with our enquiries as we look to understand the full circumstances of the situation.”

It has not been confirmed if the girl is a student at the school.
Fire crews were called to the school at 5.42pm on Wednesday (January 17) to reports of smoke coming from the building.
They remained on scene until 6.30am today.
