Firefighters were called to Marine Parade in Seaford after the vehicle burst into flames.
At least three fire engines were spotted at the scene, with fire crews dousing the fire in an attempt to extinguish the fire.
Marine Parade has been closed in both directions from Claremont Road to Edinburgh Road, with heavy traffic reported.
East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service has been approached for comment.
It comes as roads nearby faced severe disruption after a section of the A27 was closed due to an accident earlier this morning.
