Fields and roads across Sussex have flooded as up to 35mm of rainfall is predicted tonight. Flood alerts are in place alongside a Met Office yellow warning for rain.

In Pulborough the River Arun is running high, and is expected to rise even further tomorrow. The Environment Agency predicts flood water will near close to properties on Lower Street and Swan Corner and Swan Bridge and ridge Cottages.

A spokesman for the agency wrote: “After each high tide, water will be close to the tops of the banks and in fields near Houghton Bridge, Amberley. With tides low and falling, flood water is only expected to affect fields in Arundel.”

Residents in Pulborough, Amberley and Arundel have been told to protect against the flooding with sandbags or flood barriers – with the impacts predicted to last until next week.

In Alfriston the River Cuckmere is expected to rise with some “extensive” flooding including on roads.
