Harry Finch has penned a Kent contract extension.

The club’s first-choice wicketkeeper-batsman in County Championship Division 1 for 2023, 28-year-old Finch has committed to stay until at least the end of the 2025 season.

Overall, he has 35 appearances for Kent’s first-team in all formats with two centuries making up a part of his 1,161 runs scored, having helped Spitfires win the 2022 One-Day Cup.

Finch said: “I’ve loved my first full season at Kent and I’m really pleased to be able to extend my contract at the club.

“Winning the One-Day Cup in 2022 is one of the highlights of my career and, hopefully, we can add to that in the coming years.

“Getting into the Championship team and playing an important role with bat and gloves was really pleasing for me, and I can’t wait to get back out there and help the team win games and trophies.

“We’ve got a really exciting squad of players that are only going to get better – it’s a great place to be.”

Finch made his debut for Kent against Sussex during July 2021, drafted in as a replacement player amid the Covid pandemic and impressed with a century on debut against his former county.

The Hastings-born player also was a part of the Spitfires squad which lifted the 2022 One-Day Cup, playing in the Final as they beat Lancashire at Trent Bridge by 21 runs.

After two short-term stints with Kent, he was handed professional terms last October.

He has 12 catches and one stumping in four matches so far with the gloves in red-ball cricket and has a batting average of 34.83 in the County Championship when also keeping wicket.

“Finchy has taken on the opportunity to keep wicket for Kent with both hands,” director of cricket Simon Cook said.

“This year, he’s stood up to the likes of Yuzvendra Chahal and Matt Parkinson on challenging wickets and has improved every time he has kept.

“He deserves the opportunity to own his place as our full-time wicketkeeper in first-class competition and I’m looking forward to seeing him progress further.”
