The crash happened on the A22 Lewes Road at around 6.45am this morning.

Firefighters were in attendance for most of the morning and had to cut a section out of the van during the rescue operation.

Police and ambulance crews also attended the crash, which happened in Ashurstwood near East Grinstead.

A spokesman for West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service said: “We were called to a two-vehicle road traffic collision involving two vans in Lewes Road, Ashurst Wood, at 6.45am today (Saturday).

“Fire engines from East Grinstead and Turners Hill, plus the heavy rescue tender from Crawley, attended and one person was freed from a vehicle and handed into the care of Secamb.”

“Police also attended.”

The road reopened at around 10.30am. 

Sussex Police were approached for comment.
