A total of 464 pupils from 11 schools earned the title of FunSTEM Industrial Cadets after completing the six-week programme, which focused on developing practical skills in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.
The project, funded by Clyde Gateway and delivered by The Engineering Development Trust, is designed to equip young learners with the confidence and capabilities to imagine and build solutions for real-world challenges.

Sandra Hendry, project manager at Clyde Gateway, said: “The FunSTEM project helps inspire the next generation with the skills, confidence and ambition needed to support sustainable growth and green generation, helping to inspire future aspirations within the sector.
“Clyde Gateway is home to emerging tech and innovation companies, and engaging with pupils at an early stage helps to create the engineers, scientists and successful businesses of tomorrow.”
Throughout the programme, pupils worked in teams as engineers and entrepreneurs, tasked with designing and promoting a renewable energy product.
Their challenge included creating a working model, designing a poster, and presenting their idea to a panel of volunteer assessors from industry.
Some of the winning concepts included a solar-powered hat and a “super bouncy trampoline.”

The project saw involvement from schools including Dalmarnock, Eastbank, Quarry Brae, Riverbank, Wellshot, Thorntree, Sacred Heart, St Anne’s, St Denis’, St Michael’s, and St Thomas’.
One of the pupils who took part said: “What I enjoyed most about FunSTEM was that it pushed me through challenging obstacles for my team and me to face.
“It was very fun.”

Events were hosted at Eastbank Academy and St Mungo’s Academy.
Support was provided by Utopi, OCS, Vital Energi, Kelvin Controls, Noventa Energy, and Scottish Water, whose volunteer assessors worked with pupils.
Upon completion of the programme, pupils received official accreditation and the Industrial Cadets Challenger award, recognising their achievement and growing STEM skills.
