Starting Friday, OpenAI will cease providing access to five legacy ChatGPT models, including the popular but controversial GPT-4o model. The 4o model has been at the center of a number of lawsuits concerning user self-harm, delusional behavior, and AI psychosis. It remains OpenAI’s highest scoring model for sycophancy. In addition to GPT-4o, the GPT-5, GPT-4.1, GPT-4.1 mini, and OpenAI o4-mini models have also been deprecated. OpenAI intended to retire GPT-4o in August, when it unveiled the GPT-5 model. But at the time, there was enough backlash for OpenAI to keep the legacy model available for paid subscribers, who could manually…
Anthropic has just joined a small club of companies around the world (and across industries) valued at numbers that would have seemed absurd even a couple of years ago. Following its latest Series G funding round, the company is now reportedly valued at $380 billion, after raising an additional $30 billion. The funding round represents one of the biggest private raises in tech history, and it cements Anthropic as one of the most heavily-backed AI players in the world. The big question, though, isn’t whether Anthropic is impressive – we know it is. The real question is whether $380 billion is…

The Securities and Exchange Commission closed its investigation into bankrupt electric vehicle startup Fisker last September, roughly one year after the probe was opened. TechCrunch learned the investigation was closed when the financial regulator responded to a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request in January. The SEC’s FOIA department said it had identified “approximately 21.7 gigabytes of electronically maintained records” related to the investigation. The agency doesn’t typically make records available if investigations are still open, and it explained in a follow-up email that it “was closed in September 2025.” It’s not clear how far the investigation progressed. The SEC…
Brazilian lawmakers have reintroduced a bill to create a national Strategic Sovereign Bitcoin Reserve, known as RESBit, proposing the gradual acquisition of one million bitcoins over five years. The bill, presented by Federal Deputy Luiz Gastão (PSD/CE), outlines a comprehensive framework to integrate Bitcoin into the country’s financial strategy and diversify national reserves. The proposed legislation establishes several guidelines for RESBit. First, the plan calls for a gradual accumulation of at least 1,000,000 BTC over five years. It prohibits the sale of bitcoins seized by Brazilian judicial authorities, ensuring that these assets remain within public control. The bill also allows…
