Understanding how tumors grow and spread remains one of the biggest challenges in cancer research. Scientists at the University of Geneva (UNIGE), working with the Ludwig Institute for Cancer Research, have identified a surprising factor that may help explain why some cancers progress more aggressively. Their research shows that neutrophils, a common type of immune cell, can be altered by the tumor environment in ways that actually support cancer growth instead of stopping it. Once exposed to the tumor ecosystem, these immune cells begin producing a molecule known as the chemokine CCL3. Rather than helping the body fight disease, CCL3…
Singapore’s government has blamed a known Chinese cyber-espionage group for targeting four of its top telecommunication companies as part of a months-long attack. In a statement Monday, Singapore confirmed for the first time that the hackers, known as UNC3886, targeted the country’s telecoms infrastructure, including its largest companies: Singtel, StarHub, M1, and Simba Telecom. The government previously said that it was responding to an unspecified attack on its critical infrastructure. While the intruders were able to breach and access some systems, they did not disrupt services or access personal information, said K. Shanmugam, the country’s coordinating minister for national security.…
In each incident, victims were contacted by phone at their home by someone claiming to be either a police officer or a member of bank staff. The caller raised concerns about suspicious activity on the victim’s account and said their money was at risk, asking them to assist with an urgent investigation. The fraudsters convinced the victims they were genuine before instructing them to visit their bank or a foreign exchange bureau to withdraw cash. Victims were then told to hand over the money to a courier, who was falsely described as collecting it for safekeeping. Officers are continuing enquiries…

YouTube has become the biggest platform out there, offering tons of opportunities for creators to earn a living. Back in June, the company reported that its creative ecosystem added over $55 billion to the U.S. GDP and created more than 490,000 full-time jobs. However, many YouTubers have reduced their reliance on ad revenue and brand deals. There are several reasons for this shift. First, ad revenue can be unpredictable. With YouTube continually updating its policies, some creators find it challenging to secure ads for their videos, which can negatively impact their earnings. They’ve also realized that income from these streams…
Swedish music streaming giant Spotify saw its user numbers peak last quarter, driven by its year-end “Wrapped” campaign, which rounds up stats and listening highlights for users, and new features on its free tier. The company said it saw a record 38 million new users in the fourth quarter, taking its total to 751 million monthly active users, up 11% from a year earlier. Paying subscribers increased by 10% to 290 million in the quarter. Spotify said the “Wrapped” campaign resulted in more than 300 million engaged users and 630 million shares on social media in 56 languages. Revenue came…
Safer Internet Day takes place today and public discussion often turns to safer passwords or avoiding risky links. Enterprise leaders speak more about the safety of the systems that keep services running every hour of the day. Petre Agenbag, service delivery manager at Dariel, said online safety now ties directly to how businesses operate day to day. “The internet your customers experience is only as safe as the systems behind it. When those systems fail, the impact is immediate, visible, and very difficult to contain,” he said. Many organisations run sales, payments, customer service and reporting through connected platforms. A…
Businesses are generating more video than ever. From years of broadcast archives to thousands of store cameras and countless hours of production footage, most of it just sits unused on servers, unwatched and unanalyzed. This is dark data: a massive, untapped resource that companies collect automatically but almost never use in a meaningful way. To tackle the problem, Aza Kai (CEO) and Hiraku Yanagita (COO), two former Googlers who spent nearly a decade working together at Google Japan, decided to build their own solution. The duo co-founded InfiniMind, a Tokyo-based startup developing infrastructure that converts petabytes of unviewed video and…
James Gathercole committed his latest offence on a train to Sussex only 12 days after being released from prison on licence, according to British Transport Police (BTP). The 40-year-old was handed a prison sentence of two years and four months at Lewes Crown Court last week after pleading guilty to two counts of exposure and being in breach of a sexual harm prevention order (SHPO) and his prison release licence. A woman on a train from London to East Grinstead noticed Gathercole staring at her from a nearby seat on the morning of July 15 last year. Handout still issued…
