E. coli bacteria may be far more capable at evolving antibiotic resistance than scientists previously thought, according to a new study published in Science onNovember 24. Led by SFI External Professor Andreas Wagner, the researchers experimentally mapped more than 260,000 possible mutations of an E. coli protein that is essential for the bacteria’s survival when exposed to the antibiotic trimethoprim. The incident happened in East Park, Crawley, between 5.30pm and 6pm on November 11. Police have now released the details of the incident in which a 31-year-old man sustained injuries that were not life-threatening. He was taken to hospital and has since been recovering. Police are investigating and have received reports of a man who was seen walking from East Park towards Brighton Road in the direction of the High Street after the incident.
