We humans are fixated on big brains as a proxy for smarts. But headless animals called brittle stars have no brains at all and still manage to learn through experience, new research reveals. These shy marine creatures have no brain to speak of — just nerve cords running down each of their five wiggly arms, which join to form a nerve ring near their mouth. “There’s no processing center,” said lead author Julia Notar, who did the…
Police were on scene at Brighton Railway Station for the second time this month as activists “occupied” in a bid to encourage politicians to call for a permanent ceasefire in the region. A spokesman for the campaign told The Argus: “Over 100 members of the local community are occupying Brighton station for the second time.” The British Transport Police said that only 20 activists were involved with the protest. But if Loft Orbital has its way, SaaS will soon come to mean something very different: space infrastructure-as-a-service. The San Francisco-based startup has already made enormous progress by developing what it calls an “abstraction layer” between the satellite bus and payloads: It buys standard satellites from vendors like Airbus and LeoStella and outfits them with payloads from customers, saving them the hassle of purchasing, operating and managing their own hardware and ground segment network. But Loft Orbital sees even greater demand for space access, because…

If businesses breach GDPR rules, they…
