If your office is still running on a traditional landline setup, there’s a good chance that you’re paying too much and missing out on features that your competitors might already be using. So what’s next? A technology called Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP). Calls are made using the Internet instead of a copper wire phone line. Not only does it make calling significantly cheaper, but VoIP systems offer modern features from call forwarding to virtual receptionists. These are things that a traditional phone system simply can’t do. And if businesses are getting that and more for a fraction of the…
Developer platform GitLab has laid off about 14% of its workforce, about 350 employees, as part of a broader restructuring effort it detailed last month. The company said in May that it was going to reduce its workforce as it exited 22 countries, flattened management layers, and invested in infrastructure to scale its platform and serve increased traffic from AI workflows, with a sharper focus on research and development. CEO Bill Staples said during a conference call on Tuesday that agentic workloads are stressing developer infrastructure more than it was designed to handle. It isn’t a problem unique to GitLab.…
Bitcoin price has tumbled to its lowest level in months Wednesday night, crashing below $62,000 and wiping out a sharp intraday loss of more than $5,300 — a decline of nearly 8% in 24 hours — as a perfect storm of institutional exodus, leverage liquidations, geopolitical fear, and a symbolic but jarring sale by Michael Saylor’s Strategy converged to shatter market confidence. At approximately 10:00 PM EDT, Bitcoin price was changing hands at $61,463.22, down from a 24-hour high of $67,416.50 and dangerously close to the psychologically critical $60,000 floor. The selloff erased weeks of tentative recovery and put the…
Customer support and service are among the hottest sectors in voice AI right now. But building a product that sounds human and responds without noticeable delay turns out to be much harder in some markets than others — and most of the major players weren’t built with Africa and the Middle East in mind. AethexAI, a startup founded last year to close that gap, has raised $3 million in pre-seed funding led by 4DX Ventures, with participation from Enza Capital, Dorm Room Fund, Mojo Ventures, and Stanford GSB 26 Fund. Individual investors include Stanford faculty, telecom executives, and AI researchers…

Jagtar Singh Johal, 39, from Dumbarton, was arrested in 2017, just weeks after his wedding, and has been detained ever since. Despite being acquitted last year on charges of financially supporting a terror group, he still faces federal charges in India based on the same allegations. His family and MP are now urging Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper to secure his release during her current visit to India. Douglas McAllister, Labour MP for West Dunbartonshire, said: “There can be no higher priority on this trip than securing the freedom of a young British man who has been unjustly imprisoned for almost…
Suno, the AI music-generation company, announced on Wednesday that it has raised a $400 million Series D round, valuing the company at $5.4 billion. It was only about seven months ago that Suno raised at a $2.45 billion valuation, underscoring that investors are confident in the company’s future despite the litigation it faces. That legal trouble isn’t minor. As Suno itself has admitted, the company trains its AI on copyrighted songs. The company argues that this is permissible according to fair use — a legal doctrine that allows limited use of copyrighted material without permission, but one that is highly…

Google Labs, the tech giant’s team devoted to experimental product design, has launched a new AI-fueled app for iOS and Android that will quite literally animate your life. Behold, Dreambeans. Why is it called that? We’ll get to that later. First, what is it? Gozde Oznur, the product lead behind the new app, told TechCrunch that the idea is to use data culled from across your various Google services to generate a curated list of AI-illustrated “stories.” These stories come in a variety of different shapes and forms, although — in general — they seem to be lifestyle suggestions. Oznur…
