Wattpad, a Toronto-based storytelling platform owned by Naver’s Webtoon Entertainment, conducted another round of layoffs earlier this month. Wattpad has cut less than 30 jobs, or roughly 15% of its workforce, a source familiar with the situation told TechCrunch. According to local media outlets, including The Korea Economic Daily, the cut impacted about 30 employees. A spokesperson for Wattpad did not respond to a request for comment ahead of publication. The move is part of the company’s restructuring plan aimed at reducing costs as its LA-based parent company seeks to improve its finances ahead of an initial public offering in the…

Credit: CC0 Public Domain Corals, the literal foundation of any reef, have adjusted and adapted to their environment over millennia. While reefs can recover from adverse conditions, sadly the ongoing frequency and severity of stressors like marine heat waves means they cannot recover fast enough. Boosting a reef’s natural resilience and ability to recover in the face of continued and increasing climate change stress is necessary. Connectivity Despite continued stress and mass bleaching events in the last decades, the…

A Delaware judge ruled Tuesday that Elon Musk’s $56 billion multi-billion pay package is unfair, voiding the largest in compensation deal in corporate history. Life has a challenging tempo. Sometimes, it moves faster or slower than we’d like. Nevertheless, we adapt. We pick up the rhythm of conversations. We keep pace with the crowd walking a city sidewalk. “There are many instances where we have to do the same action but at different tempos. So the question is, how does the brain do it,” says Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory Assistant Professor Arkarup Banerjee. Now, Banerjee and collaborators have uncovered a new clue that suggests the brain bends our processing of time to suit our needs. And it’s partly thanks to a noisy critter from…
