Is there a massive undiscovered planet on the outer reaches of the Solar System? The idea has been around since before the discovery of Pluto in the 1930s. Labelled as planet X, prominent astronomers had put it forward as an explanation for Uranus’s orbit, which drifts from the path of orbital motion that physics would expect it to follow. The gravitational pull of an undiscovered planet, several times larger than Earth, was seen as a possible reason for the discrepancy. That mystery was ultimately explained by a recalculation of Neptune’s mass in the 1990s, but then a new theory of…

Anthropic is bringing its most powerful AI model to the general public for the first time, but it’s doing it with guardrails. On Tuesday, the AI firm launched Claude Fable 5, the first publicly available version of its Mythos model. Anthropic says Fable 5 excels at software engineering, knowledge work, and vision, but it comes with hard safety limits. In high-risk areas like cybersecurity, biology, chemistry, and distillation, the model blocks responses and falls back to Claude Opus 4.8. Launched as a preview in April, Mythos was initially limited to a handful of partners due to cybersecurity concerns. Last week,…

Apple’s long-awaited foldable iPhone may be on track for a fall release, according to hidden files that researcher @M1Astra found in the iOS 27 developer beta. This could mean that when Apple unveils its newest hardware in September, we might finally see its take on the foldable. Even though Apple has no foldable phones yet, the iOS 27 code includes references to “foldState,” “mechanicalAngleDegrees,” “angleDegrees,” and “MGGetLogicalDeviceDisplayCount.” This suggests that the software can interpret if the phone is folded out, to what degree it’s been opened, and how many displays the device is using. The implication is that a possible…
Most people’s Ibiza starts the same way. A villa somewhere inland, a car, daily trips to the coast, and a drive back each evening. It works. It’s also significantly worse than what happens when the beach is a short walk from where you’re sleeping. That gap matters more than most people account for before booking. Privadia‘s position on this has always been consistent: where the villa sits relative to the water matters more than what’s inside it. Their ‘Beach Walking Distance’ collection exists because of exactly that. The beaches here don’t resemble each other much. The west coast runs on…
Apple is warning developers that some of their apps may not be able to call the App Store home forever. In its newly refreshed App Review Guidelines released this week, the tech giant said it may begin removing apps in certain well-established categories if they’re not “updated, improved, or attracting customers.” This marks a significant shift on Apple’s part, which earlier used to simply reject copycat apps or those in saturated categories. Previously, Apple’s guidelines had cautioned developers not to pile on in categories that already had plenty of apps. The line, somewhat hilariously, had read: “The App Store has…

Menopause affects around half the global population. It’s not included among the NIH’s approximately 300 research categories. Global productivity losses attributed to menopause symptoms are estimated at $150 billion a year. And for most of the history of modern medicine, the products and services available to women navigating it have been insufficient. The momentum is building – and UK femtech is leading the change. The UK’s women’s health technology sector has attracted more than £480 million in investment and is growing at 30% annually, according to analysis by Grant Thornton. Forty-five percent of all European menopause startups are UK-based, according…
