The Sussex Police ATV, equipped with blue lights, a powerful spotlight and high-powered LED lighting, is designed to patrol the shingle and enhance visibility along the seafront during the night and early hours.
Chief Inspector Dan Hiles said: “Brighton seafront is enjoyed by millions of people every year, and we want everyone to feel safe while visiting.
“This new vehicle provides officers with another important tool in the continued efforts to reduce offending in the area.
“It also complements existing tactics already in place, including drones and live facial recognition technology.”
The ATV is intended to deter crime, provide a highly visible police presence, and allow officers to take patrols further onto the beach and respond quickly.
Brighton divisional commander Adam Hays said: “If you’re thinking of committing a crime on Brighton seafront, think again.
“Expect to be seen, expect us to respond and expect us to take action.”
A spokesperson for Sussex Police confirmed that the vehicle will be used primarily at night and during the early hours to keep the public safe and support its seafront patrols.
