A main busy main route between two towns has been flooded and homes are without water due to a burst pipe.

Footage shows a stream running down Crayford Road outside the entrance to Tower Retail Park in Crayford, near the McDonald’s at about 2pm.

Those living in the DA1, DA6 and DA7 areas, which include both Dartford and Crayford, are experiencing no water or low water pressure.

Workers were pictured at the scene just before 4pm and have coned off part of Crayford Road, outside the McDonald’s. The fire service is also in attendance.

A notice on the Thames Water website posted at 2.12pm says: “We’re sorry if your tap water isn’t running at the moment. We’re aware of an issue in the area that’s affecting customers in the Dartford area.

“Our specialist team is enroute to the area to investigate the cause of disruption and restore the flow of your water supply.

“We know how disruptive it is if you lose your water supply, so we’ll work hard to get things back to normal as soon as we can.”

At 3.50pm, it added: “Our teams are on site now and have located a burst water pipe in Crayford Road.

“Our priority is to isolate the burst pipe which will allow us to excavate down to the damaged section and carry out a repair.

“We will work as quick as we can to get your supplies back to normal.”

One person who shared an image of the floods online with the message “this is going to cause chaos”.

Just after 4pm, another resident who lives nearby said: “I saw my neighbours looking at something outside from their balconies so I went to my window to see what was going on, but I didn’t expect the whole road to be flooded.

“Water was gushing into our turn-in from the main road.

“The firefighters acted very quickly to get things under control and keep us all calm, the road is still flooded and blocked off though and I’m not sure how long the disruption will last.

“It’s really worrying to have it happen right outside your home.”

Another update is expected to be given by 7pm.

Thames Water has been approached for more information about how many homes are impacted.
