The first 100 kids to visit Queen Street station on Wednesday, July 8 will be gifted a bucket containing their new list of 47 things to do during summer that won’t break the bank.
The ‘bucket list’ provides ideas for days out which can all be reached by rail, allowing parents to make good use of ScotRail‘s kids for a quid scheme, all backed by Dr. Rebecca Johnson, an academic psychologist with a research specialism in children, young people and mental health.
Dr Johnson said: ““The summer holidays can be a particularly demanding time for parents, both financially and emotionally, as they try to keep children entertained over a long break without the usual structure of term time.
“Costs can build, and the expectation to do our very best by our kids to make sure they have a great summer can feel overwhelming.
“It’s especially hard when they try to compete with or compare themselves to the ‘perfect’ summer content they might see other people post on social media.
“Research shows children and young people want to spend their summer actually enjoying their childhood. Spending time with their friends, experiencing new opportunities, taking a break, and having a choice over what they do with their time.
“Memories aren’t made when you open your wallet. For kids, they are made when they get to have fun with people they care about, doing things that interest them.
“The ScotRail bucket-list can provide the choice and experience that children and young people crave. Its unique pick ‘n’ mix style gives children and families options on how to fill time over summer, taking away some of that burden of constantly thinking of new things to do.”

Affordability is the name of the game, as the list highlights the many discounts available for families visiting attractions across the country.
It also includes ScotRail partner deals which offer one free child admission when you show your Kids for a Quid ticket and buy one standard adult ticket at attractions such as Deep Sea World in North Queensferry, Edinburgh’s Camera Obscura & World of Illusions, and the Scottish Football Museum.
Claire Dickie, ScotRail Commercial Director, said: “We know families want to make the most of the school holidays without it becoming expensive, stressful, or complicated.
“That’s why we’ve brought together a summer bucket list of great value days out across Scotland, all easy to reach by train.
“Our Kids for a Quid tickets help parents get on board with affordable adventures, allowing children to travel for just £1 return each with a paying adult. It’s a simple way to explore more, spend less, and enjoy quality time together.”
