Caffe Royale on Glasgow Road has shuts its door with “immediate effect” citing financial pressure facing their independent business.
Only last week, MP for Paisley and Renfrewshire North, Alison Taylor hailed the restaurant as a “a jewel in the crown in the east end” of the town.
The visit was made as part of the Scotland Loves Local campaign which encourages communities to support businesses on their doorstep.
In a statement on social media, the owners Colin and Claire, said that they are “devastated” to leave the community.
They said: “It is with a heavy heart that we announce the closure of Caffè Royale.
“The increasing financial pressures facing small independent businesses have forced us to close with immediate effect.
“We have given it everything we possibly could; however, it is no longer enough. Our health and wellbeing can no longer be sustained under these pressures.
“We are devastated to be leaving such a wonderful community and customers whom we now consider friends after the last seven years. Your support will never be forgotten, as we could never have done this without you.
“We would also like to extend our heartfelt thanks to our incredible staff, past and present. Your hard work, loyalty, friendship, and dedication have been at the heart of Caffè Royale, and we are deeply grateful for everything you have contributed over the years. It has been a privilege to work alongside you.
“We are grateful for everything and will cherish the memories we have made.”
Shocked customers took to social media to share their sadness at the news and best wishes to Colin and Claire.
One said: “Heart-breaking to read this. Our family have loved having you in our lives for birthday celebrations of a 60th and many years before.
“Businesses like café royale are integral to communities. Take time to get your wellbeing back and know you are held dear by Paisley.”
Another added: “I’m so very sorry to hear this sad news Colin and Claire, absolutely gutted to be honest, however health comes first.”
A third said: “I’m really sorry to hear this news after all the work you have put in: look at all the comments above and you will see how much of an impact you had.
“Sadly a result of the difficult circumstances that many businesses are finding themselves in. Your health and wellbeing come first. Take care of yourselves.”
