Barracloughs the Opticians, based in Polegate, marked the milestone at its High Street practice with a special open day on Saturday, June 20, to thank patients and staff for their support over the decades.
The day included bubbly, a prize draw, goody bags and a £40 discount on glasses.
Pauline Keates, 82, a former receptionist and now a patient, was among the guests.
Ms Keates worked at the practice for 20 years after it was taken over by Barracloughs in 1986 from Brown and Caruthers.
She said: “My family owned a deli and grocery shop in the High Street so after having the shop, I knew many patients very well and would always have a quick catch-up when they came in for eye tests and appointments.
“It was always nice to see them and reminisce.
“Over the years there have been so many changes of course, but besides the work I have worked with many lovely colleagues and made wonderful friends.
“I have great memories of good times which still continue to this day – I’m so grateful that I am still remembered and included in any socialising that is going on.”
Ms Keates now lives in Bexhill but remains a patient at the practice.
She said: “I am still a patient and always look forward to my visits as I usually manage to see a familiar face or two.”
Barracloughs the Opticians was founded in 1957 by Frank Barraclough in Norman Road, St Leonards.
The Polegate branch opened in 1986.
Following the retirement of Nigel Barraclough, Frank’s son, a new leadership team took over, including Dave Cleworth, Sarah Watters and managing director Jeremy Heynes.
Mr Cleworth said: “Reaching such a significant milestone wouldn’t have been possible without the continued trust and support of our loyal patients, so we wanted to hold an open day to say a massive ‘thank you’.”
He said: “We are incredibly grateful to the generations of local families who have relied on us for their eye and hearing health.”
