Jordan Cox kept his place in the England Test squad this week after making his debut against New Zealand.

The 25-year-old Margate-born batsman made his long-awaited first Test appearance in the 253-run defeat to New Zealand at The Oval.

Batting at seven, Cox made 27 and 25. He was last out in the second innings, bowled by Matt Henry as he attempted an improvised sweep.

Cox was a graduate of the Kent academy and moved to Essex ahead of the 2024 season in a bid to play regular first-team cricket.

Writing on social media, Cox said: “A week I will never forget, thanks for all the support.”

The series against New Zealand is tied at 1-1 ahead of the third and final Test at Trent Bridge, which gets under way on Thursday.

Sussex’s Margate-born Ollie Robinson, who missed the second Test due to injury, has also been named in the squad.

England squad for Third Test: Ben Stokes (captain), Rehan Ahmed, Jofra Archer, Gus Atkinson, Shoaib Bashir, Jacob Bethell, Harry Brook, Jordan Cox, Ben Duckett, Matthew Fisher, Emilio Gay, Ollie Robinson, Joe Root, Jamie Smith, Josh Tongue.

Cox has also been named in England’s T20 international squad for the five-game series against India which starts on July 1 in Durham.
