The shocking attack happened before midnight on Saturday on Thorndean Avenue in the North Lanarkshire town
Police said the 24-year-old victim was on Coltness Drive at around 11.55pm when he was approached by two men who chased him onto Thorndean Avenue where they seriously assaulted him. He was taken to hospital for treatment.
The first suspect is described as white and of slim build. He was wearing a dark-coloured hoodie, black shorts and a skeleton balaclava.
The second suspect was white and of medium build. He was also wearing a skeleton balaclava, a black and grey padded jacket, black jogging trousers with grey patches at the knee and grey trainers.
Detective Constable David Nolan said: “Enquiries are ongoing to trace the two men responsible and I would appeal to the local community for any assistance.
“If you have any information that could assist please contact us. Anyone with dash-cam or personal footage is asked to please review it and get in touch if it holds anything which could be relevant.”
