Carl Gorton, 42, of Anerley Hill in Anerley, was sentenced to six months in prison at Bromley Magistrates’ Court last Thursday (May 28) for a series of thefts.

Between February 16 and February 19 he stole from shops in West Wickham and Penge.

A spokesperson for Bromley Police said: “The conviction simply would not have been possible without the incredible support of our local businesses in West Wickham.

“By sharing vital information and providing high-quality CCTV, shop owners and staff helped us build a watertight case.”

Gorton was given a criminal behaviour order (CBO) lasting three years.

The order bans him from entering any Boots, Tesco, Greggs or Asda stores in the UK.

He is also barred from entering retail premises without the means to pay, or from entering shops where he has been banned in writing.

He also cannot conceal items before purchase or wear clothing intended to hide his identity, except for medical or religious reasons.

Gorton is also prohibited from entering West Wickham, Hayes and Coney Hall.

The order takes effect immediately upon his release from prison.

A police spokesperson said: “We will continue to work tirelessly to keep our high street safe and thriving.”
