Clearway Disposals Ltd says it “recognises the seriousness of the fire incident”
The company that owns a facility in Belfast Harbour where a large fire took place on Sunday has issued a statement saying it “recognises the seriousness” of the incident.
75 firefighters were called in to tackle the blaze on Sunday at the Clearway Disposals Ltd facility on East Twin Road in the harbour area which also saw tug boats and aerial appliances used.
Now the company that owns the facility has issued a statement saying: “Clearway Disposals Ltd recognises the seriousness of the fire incident at its East Twin Road facility within Belfast Harbour and the concern this has caused for neighbouring businesses, harbour users and the wider community.
“Our immediate priority throughout the incident was the protection of life, emergency responders, neighbouring premises, critical harbour infrastructure and the prevention of further escalation.
“We are grateful to the Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service, Belfast Harbour Police, PSNI, Belfast Harbour, Belfast Towage and all emergency responders involved in bringing the incident under control. We can confirm that all persons on site were accounted for and no injuries have been reported.
“We are focused on securing the affected area, protecting employees, contractors and visitors. We are cooperating fully with NIEA, HSENI, NIFRS and Belfast Harbour, while implementing a controlled recovery plan.
“It would not be appropriate to speculate on the cause of the fire or the wider technical details while regulatory engagement and internal review work are ongoing.
