West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service responded to the blaze in Brighton Road, Henfield, just after 5pm yesterday (May 25).

The fire service believes the incident was caused by “deliberate ignition” and said there were no casualties.

Crews remained on the scene until 10pm.

A spokesman for West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service: “Yesterday (May 25) at 5.16pm we responded to a fire at a derelict property in Brighton Road, Henfield, after receiving multiple 999 calls from members of the public.

“Joint fire control sent four fire engines, a water carrier and an off-road vehicle to the scene.

“Upon arrival crews were confronted with a significant fire affecting the entire property.

“Crews used jets and hose reels to bring the fire under control.

“Firefighters remained at the scene until around 10pm to ensure the fire was fully extinguished and that there were no hotspots remaining.

“Fortunately, there were no casualties.

“The fire is believed to be of deliberate ignition.”
