Police were called to the junction of Downham Way and Reigate Road at 5.37am today (May 23) following reports of a man lying unconscious in the road.

Officers attended and administered first aid before the man was taken to hospital.

His injuries were not believed to be life-threatening or life-changing.

The Metropolitan Police said debris believed to have come from a car was found near where the man was discovered.

Following enquiries, officers located a damaged car in Grove Park and arrested two men, aged 21 and 24, on suspicion of driving while unfit through drugs.

Police are continuing to review CCTV footage as they work to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident.

Anyone who witnessed what happened or has information is being urged to call 101 quoting CAD 1640/23MAY26.

A spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police Service said: “Police were called to Downham Way at the junction with Reigate Road at 05:37hrs on Friday, 22 May following reports of a man unconscious in the road.

“Officers attended the scene and administered first aid.

“He was taken to hospital but did not suffer any life-changing or life-threatening injuries.

“Debris believed to be from a car was located close to where the man was found.

“Following enquiries, officers found a damaged car in Grove Park and two men, aged 21 and 24 were arrested on suspicion of driving while unfit through drugs.

“Ongoing CCTV enquiries are taking place to establish the full circumstances.
