West Wittering car park is sold out on Sunday, May 24 and Monday May 25 and people have been asked not to travel to the beach without a booking.
Under the post, people bemoaned the beach’s increasing popularity, which has put paid to spontaneous trips.
One said: “I used to love going there as a family as a kid. Check the weather the day before. Turn up 8am, make a bacon sandwich by the car before going on the beach for the day. Can’t do that nowadays.”
Another said: “Sounds really fun, queuing for ages to park, then sit on a packed beach with the British public.”
Travel publisher Condé Nast Traveller recently picked West Wittering as one of the 60 best beaches in the UK.
The publisher wrote: “White sand, an expansive coastline and fluffy sand dunes with views of the Isle of Wight, West Wittering is renowned for its beauty and is only a two-hour drive from central London to West Sussex or 1 hour 25 minutes by train.
“In the colder months, it’s quiet and mostly consists of locals on walks but in the summer it can be very popular – but never overcrowded; it’s managed well by the only nearby parking, which has to be booked ahead of arrival.
“The beach is well-maintained and has a very small promenade, if you can really call it that, with a cafe and a handful of food and drink huts, just enough for a calm and restorative beach day.”
The beach was awarded both Blue Flag and Seaside Award status for summer 2026, recognising it for its water quality and environmental standards for the 30th year running.
The beach originally received Blue Flag status in 1987, the first year the awards were handed out, and was one of just 14 locations in the UK to be given the recognition at the time.
