National Highways plans to reprofile the carriageway over a six-week period, with a series of temporary restrictions in place.
The works, on the westbound section of the A27 between Ashcombe roundabout and the Hollingbury interchange, are set to start on or after June 13 and are expected to be completed by July 2.

The plans include overnight closures, a 24-hour speed limit and lane width restriction, as well as the closure of bus stops, lay-bys and footpaths.
Between 8pm and 6am, the westbound carriageway will be closed from Ashcombe roundabout, with traffic diverted along the A26, A259 and A23, rejoining the A27 at Patcham interchange.
Slip roads leading to and from the westbound carriageway at Falmer interchange will also be closed overnight, as will side roads at junctions within the stretch of work.
Bus stops and lay-bys along the affected carriageway will be shut for the duration of the works.
The footway adjacent to the A27 westbound, between 950 metres and 1,530 metres west of the South Downs Way overbridge, will also be closed around the clock.
Similarly, the footway crossing the Falmer Hill footbridge and all approach footpaths will be out of use throughout the project.
Drivers are being warned to observe a 50mph speed restriction on the A27 westbound from 490 metres west of the South Downs Way overbridge to 150 metres west of The Drove overbridge.
A two-metre width restriction will also apply round-the-clock in the outside lane between 1,050 metres west of the South Downs Way overbridge and 50 metres west of The Drove overbridge.
Signage will be in place to indicate closures, temporary speed limits, lane width reductions and diversion routes.
