Yesterday, May 21, Brighton and Hove City Council held its annual general meeting where it confirmed cabinet positions and portfolios for the coming 12 months.
Councillor Bella Sankey has been re-elected as leader and will continue as chair of the cabinet.
Both Councillor Jacob Taylor and Councillor Tim Rowkins will also remain as deputy leaders.
Councillor Taylor will keep his position as cabinet member for finance and city regeneration, and Councillor Rowkins will hold on to the net zero and environmental services portfolio.
Councillor David McGregor has been appointed as cabinet member for economy, culture, heritage, and tourism, taking over from his previous role as chair of licensing, which will now be handled by Councillor Andrei Czolak.
Councillor Jacob Allen will continue with the customer services and public realm portfolio, but will take on additional responsibility for local government reorganisation.
The rest of the cabinet positions remain unchanged, which includes Councillor Trevor Muten for transport and city infrastructure, Councillor Gill Williams for housing, Councillor Emma Daniel for children, families, and youth services, Councillor Mitchie Alexander for communities, equalities, and adult social care, and Councillor Alan Robins for sports, recreation, and libraries.
Councillors have also been named as cabinet advisors for the 2026/27 period.
These are as follows: Councillor Joy Robinson – procurement and contract management, Councillor Mohammed Asaduzzaman – small business and innovation, Councillor Amanda Grimshaw – community safety and armed forces, Councillor Tobias Sheard – youth engagement.
The health and wellbeing board will be chaired by Councillor Paul Nann, while Councillor Alison Thomson will continue to chair the planning committee.
Councillor Julie Cattell will chair the corporate parenting board.
During the meeting, Councillor Theresa Fowler was also introduced as the new mayor of Brighton and Hove.
She replaces Councillor Amanda Grimshaw, who carried out 363 engagements and events during her term in office.
She will now return to her role representing Hangleton and Knoll ward.
