Emergency services attended the incident at the beach near Black Rock car park off Madeira Drive, Brighton, at around 5.45am last Wednesday, May 13, where the bodies of three women were recovered nearby.
Yesterday, May 20, Sussex Police publicly identified the three women and released a tribute from their father, Joseph.
The leader of Brighton and Hove City Council, Bella Sankey, said: “Brighton and Hove is grieving” their deaths in a newly released statement.
“The deaths of Jane, Christina and Rebecca are absolutely devastating,” she said.
“And to learn that these three beautiful black women were sisters makes this troubling situation even more heartbreaking.
“My heart goes out to everyone that loved them. Their grief and suffering must feel overwhelming I hope that they have support in this worst of times.

“Brighton and Hove is grieving too, we are keeping Jane, Christina and Rebecca in our thoughts and our hearts.”
Jane, Christina and Rebecca were sisters from the Uxbridge area of London.
Their next of kin are being supported by specialist officers during this time, Sussex Police said.
The investigation into their deaths is ongoing.
Police said there is “no evidence to suggest third-party involvement or criminality” at this time.
In his tribute, the women’s father said: “No words can truly describe the pain of losing three daughters in the prime of their lives.
“Jane, Christina, and Becky were more than daughters to me; they were my joy, my strength, and the beautiful light that filled our family with happiness and love.
“Each of you was unique and precious in your own special way.
“Your smiles brightened dark days, your laughter brought comfort, and your presence made life more meaningful.
“Though your time on earth was short, the impact you made will remain in our hearts forever.”
