A football club is set to close its pop-up store at Kent’s largest shopping centre.

South-London side, Charlton Athletic FC, have announced they are moving out of their first-ever shop at Bluewater Shopping Centre in Greenhithe.

It comes after The Addicks, who have a large Kent fanbase, secured safety in the EFL Championship, a year on from promotion from League One in the previous season.

The temporary store originally opened in the Upper Rose Gallery last June, before moving to a new position in Upper Thames Walk in November.

A statement on the club’s website said: “The store proved to be a big success, providing supporters with an alternative opportunity to purchase their Addicks merchandise.

“As well as increasing visibility for the club in one of Europe’s largest shopping centres.”

But with the agreement now at an end, it is set to close on Saturday (May 23).

Charlton supporters will be able to continue to purchase their Addicks items both online and at the Valley Superstore.

“Following the success of the Bluewater pop-up store, the club will look at the potential for any similar opportunities at the Kent shopping centre in future,” the statement added.

The club and shopping centre have been working even more closely since poking fun at Charlton’s manager, Nathan Jones banning his players from visiting Bluewater during last year’s promotion push to avoid distractions.

In response, Bluewater shared a tongue-in-cheek social media post, showing its security team scouring the shopping centre looking for players.

The video went viral with more than a million views on the centre’s social media pages.
