Nelson Cooper, 39, and Scott Smith defrauded homeowners in Dover, Canterbury, Ramsgate and Swanley out of thousands of pounds by claiming urgent chimney and roof repairs were needed.
After starting with small quotes, they rapidly inflated prices to hundreds or even thousands of pounds.
An investigation by Kent Police revealed the work was unnecessary.
In several cases, Cooper escorted victims to banks and cash points if they tried to suggest they didn’t have the cash at home.
One victim, targeted in December 2024, was told by Cooper to tell the bank he needed the money for Christmas presents.
When Cooper was arrested on December 18, 2024, officers seized mobile phones containing evidence of his targeting of elderly residents.
The phones held video clips of victims, voice notes discussing how promising particular areas were for fraud, and contact details for Smith.
In one message, Cooper boasted that all of his jobs in Ramsgate were worth more than £2,700.
He also sent a voice note singing ‘Christmas money’ in reference to the cash he was making.
