The Ibrox icon, 63, has spent much of the past three decades as a prominent pundit across English, Scottish and European football.
His commentary at the 2022 World Cup proved a major hit with viewers and he has since become the go-to co-commentator for TNT Sports on Champions League and Premier League coverage.
McCoist also regularly appears on ITV Sport and Premier Sports and has previously worked with Sky Sports and Amazon Prime.
In an interview with former Soccer AM host John Fendley for the Lifejacket podcast, McCoist said he feels “blessed” to be doing a job he believes everyone in football wants.
He said: “I think it’s a balance. You’ve obviously clearly got to tell the truth.
“If the game’s rotten and it’s 0-0, I think you’ve got to tell them that but there’s also a way of doing it.
“We’re blessed, right? Absolutely blessed. Sitting on the half way line, best seats in the house, microphone.
“It’s the job everyone wants.
“You’re not going to please everybody and not everybody’s going to agree with what you say.
“But you have to appreciate the fact that they want to be where you’re sitting.
“If you can’t be out on the pitch, they want to be where you’re sitting.
“So you’ve got to be upbeat about it, why would you not be?
“You have to be upbeat, informative and just try and pass on, if you can, something here or there that they don’t see, that nobody sees, something a little bit different.”
The former striker also revealed he is willing to make instant calls on incidents, even if it means being wrong.
He continued: “Do you know why? Because everybody calls it early.
“I don’t mind calling early and I don’t mind being wrong. I’ll call it early.
“Sometimes you’ll see something, and you’ll go ‘that has to have taken a deflection,’ and you’ll have a guess, and it’ll be an educated guess.
“And I don’t mind being wrong because I think the punters listening and watching, they’ll have a view on it immediately as well.”
