Officers from the neighbourhood policing team saw two boys riding a moped in North Bersted, Bognor, on Saturday night (May 2) and noted the numberplate had been modified.
In a search of the area, they saw the 16-year-old boys in a car and after alighting, gave chase and arrested them on suspicion of theft of the moped.
Police said an earlier appeal to the public helped them recover the moped in North Bersted.
A Sussex Police spokesman said: “We are appealing for anyone who saw two boys, both with black helmets, and one in a grey tracksuit, the other wearing a black Adidas rucksack, riding in the North Bersted area between 7pm and 7.30pm on Saturday.
“Any witnesses, and anyone with CCTV or dashcam footage, is asked to call 101, quoting serial 1350 of 02/05.”
