Tree falls and smashes window on Bedford Row in Worthing - UK Daily: Tech, Science, Business & Lifestyle News Updates


Emergency services responded after a tree crashed through the window of a flat on Bedford Row in Worthing town centre on April 28.

The tree, believed to have been uprooted by high winds, prompted a safety cordon and a prompt response from fire crews and police.

Rescue services were alerted to the incident just before 5pm.

According to Met Office data, Worthing experienced notable winds throughout the day, with sustained speeds of 19-20mph and gusts peaking at 32mph in the afternoon.

Images from scene showed the fallen tree protruding through the window of a first floor flat.

A fire and rescue service cordon was erected around the tree and property while the situation was dealt with.

A spokesperson for West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service said: “We were called at 4.55pm yesterday (April 28) to reports of a fallen tree in Bedford Row, Worthing.

“Joint Fire Control mobilised one fire engine to the scene.

“Upon arrival the crew found a tree that had fallen across the road and into a flat window.

“Firefighters made the scene safe. Sussex Police were also in attendance.

“The crew left the scene at 7.45pm.”
