The Hydro might finally get a noise complaint or two – after US superstars Ne-Yo and Akon completely blew the roof off the Finnieston venue with their high-energy show on Tuesday night.
The pair entertained thousands of Scottish fans for well over two hours as part of their Nights Like This tour with Ne-Yo kicking off with Michael Jackson-inspired choreography to perform Miss Independent and Because of You.
The star – whose real name is Shaffer Chimere Smith – addressed the crowd: “What’s going on everybody, are y’all right?”
And then it was Akon’s turn to introduce himself to the Glasgow fans. With a swagger and one finger in the air, he simply had to sing his name, Akon to send the audience into a frenzy.
He screamed: “Are y’all ready to party tonight?”
And the arena answered with a carnival atmosphere in full swing as they sang hits including Locked Up, Smack That and Young Jeezy’s Soul Survivor with infectious enthusiasm.
Both artists ruled the dance floors of the noughties and as a millennial, the show was an ample opportunity for a trip down memory lane with each singer showcasing an impressive back catalogue.
The rotation between the pair every 20 minutes proved to be a refreshing aspect of the concert and kept fans anticipating each song throughout the entire performance.
Each singer also proved they are both powerhouses when it comes to songwriting.
First up, 46-year-old Ne-Yo revealed he penned the Mario hit Let Me Love You as well as Beyoncé’s Irreplaceable.

While Akon flexed his writing muscles declaring he was behind Lady Gaga’s Just Dance.
Ne-Yo then confidently boasted: “The moral of the story is we got a lot of damn hits.”
And that was something they could prove with ease throughout the night.
Akon celebrated his Senegalese roots with the colours of the African nation’s flag exploding out of the stage during a performance of Don’t Matter.
While Ne-Yo’s 2005 single So Sick showed off his voice beautifully before the Stargate-produced smash Closer cemented itself as a highlight.

The tendency for a lot of tours recently has been to strip back the production. But this concert was the complete opposite with multiple screens, a dazzling light show, smoke and fire.
It was fun to watch and both artists turned the Hydro into one giant party.
