Chatham Town manager Kevin Hake knows his side will have to be at their best to reach the Isthmian Premier Division play-off final.
Standing in Chatham’s way are Billericay Town, a side who have finished the season strongly and have home advantage in the semi-final tie tonight (Wednesday).
Billericay finished three points ahead of the Chats in the final league table, with Hake’s men ending the season strongly, winning their last three games.
“We’re looking forward to the game and to the challenge that comes with it,” said the Chats boss.
“At this stage of the season you expect to face strong opposition, and Billericay Town have had a very good campaign, so we know we’ll need to be at our best.
“We go into it off the back of a good result against Lewes, where we made a number of changes and still produced a strong performance to win 2–1.
“That was pleasing because it showed the depth in the squad and the mentality within the group.
“It was also excellent to see three academy graduates play their part in that win.
“As a club, that’s something we’re proud of, and they’ve all got bright futures ahead of them if they continue to work hard and keep learning.”
Clarence Tambe, Isaac Hadlow and William Samways all came off the bench in the second half for Chatham as Hake took the opportunity to introduce fresh faces.
Goals from Ben Allen and Nile Ranger secured a 2-1 home win over Lewes.
Wednesday night’s opponents Billericay have lost just twice since the turn of the year but Hake is confident his team can handle the challenge.
“For us now, the focus is on ourselves,” he said.
“It’s about bringing the right mentality, showing discipline and making sure we perform to the standards we’ve set over the season.
“These games are usually decided by fine margins, so concentration, composure and doing the basics properly will be important.”
Hake’s side are sure to be backed in good numbers again and he added: “We’ve had excellent support all year and I’m sure there will be another strong backing for the players tonight, which is always appreciated.”
