Firefighters were called to a mid-terrace house on Kidborough Road, Crawley yesterday afternoon.
People were asked to avoid the area and those living nearby were asked to keep doors and windows closed.
A spokesman for West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service said: “We were called at 3.14pm on Friday 24 April to reports of a fire involving a property on Kidborough Road, Crawley.
“Joint Fire Control mobilised five fire engines and an aerial ladder platform to the scene. Upon arrival firefighters were faced with a fire in the rear garden of a mid-terrace property, affecting the rear of the building and spreading towards the roof.
“Two hose reel jets one main jet were used to bring the fire under control.
“Fortunately there were no injuries as a result of this incident which is believed to have begun accidentally.”
