Worthing firefighter Matt Wainwright, who will run on Sunday, April 26, is raising funds for Crohn’s and Colitis UK, a charity that has supported his family since his daughter Sophie was diagnosed with the disease in 2014.
Donations can be made via Mr Wainwright’s JustGiving page at https://www.justgiving.com/page/matt-wainwright-1.
After a decade of applying, this is the first time he has secured a place in the event.
Mr Wainwright said: “After 10 years of applying for a place in the marathon, I am delighted to have finally been allocated a place this year.
“My chosen charity is Crohn’s and Colitis UK, which is very close to my heart.”
He added: “Sophie has suffered numerous unpleasant symptoms and undergone various treatments for a condition that currently has no cure.
“The money raised will help the charity fund research into better treatments, raise awareness and continue supporting individuals and families living with the disease.”
Crohn’s and Colitis UK sets a fundraising target of £2,500.
