The ‘fountain’ of water spraying was first spotted just before 9am on Tuesday by a passerby at Buchanan Bus Station, who saw water gushing from Cowcaddens Road behind the stands.
Photos taken by the Glasgow Times show a column of water erupting high above the road surface, with temporary barriers, fencing and Avenues roadworks in the foreground, as passing pedestrians stop to watch.

Further images reveal water pouring across the carriageway from a large hole in the road, with floodwater pooling around road cones and plastic barriers close to the entrance of Cowcaddens Subway.

Glasgow City Council had already closed Cowcaddens Road between Port Dundas Road and North Hanover Street this week to allow “final” resurfacing and drainage works as part of the Avenues and Avenues Plus programme.
Scottish Water has confirmed around 200 properties in the G4 area are experiencing low pressure or no water as a result of the burst and warned that the incident is also causing localised traffic disruption while engineers work on site.
