Shoreham RNLI responded to the incident last night, April 4.

The all weather lifeboat was launched “in gale force winds” as it was reported that two people were attempting to enter the water from Worthing Pier.

It was stood down on route as the two people were in the care of other emergency services.

A statement shared by Shoreham RNLI Lifeboat Station reads: “Our newly qualified volunteer lifeboat coxswain Dan Measor got his first service in command of the all weather lifeboat on Saturday night when it was launched in gale force winds to a report of two people attempting to enter the water from Worthing Pier.

“The lifeboat was stood down on route after it was established that the casualties were in the care of other emergency services.”

A spokeswoman for Sussex Police said: “Police were called to Worthing Pier at 11pm on Saturday, April 4, to a report of concern for the welfare of two teenagers.

“Officers attended alongside the coastguard and engaged with the pair, who were taken to a place of safety.

“A 16-year-old girl was arrested on suspicion of breaching a Community Protection Notice. Enquiries are ongoing.”
