Suleman Mukaish, 27, of Cambridge Road, Worthing, is accused of committing the offence in Lyndhurst Road car park around 8pm on Wednesday, March 11.
Sussex Police said that Mukaish has been remanded in custody to appear before Crawley Magistrates’ Court on Monday, March 16.
They added that the victim, a woman in her 20s, has been supported by specialist officers.

There was an increased police presence in the area over Wednesday night and into Thursday morning, with the car park closed during the day as officers attempted to gather and preserve any evidence.
A spokesperson for Sussex Police said: “This is being treated as an isolated incident and police are not looking for anybody else in connection with the offence.
“We wish to thank the public for their support and information, which has been of assistance to the investigation.”
