MEATliquor in Brighton announces it will no longer do food - UK Daily: Tech, Science, Business & Lifestyle News Updates

The Brighton branch of MEATliquor, located on York Place, confirmed it would stop all kitchen operations starting from Sunday, March 15.

A notice placed in the window of the venue informed customers that the change would remain in place until further notice.

The sign reads: “From Sunday, March 15, we will not be serving food until further notice – sorry for the inconvenience caused.”

The self-described burger bar is best known for its heavy focus on meaty patties, chili cheese fries, and boozy milkshakes.

This sudden decision follows a recent reduction in opening hours at the Brighton branch.

Another sign had recently appeared in the window stating that the establishment would no longer open on Mondays, Tuesdays, or Wednesdays.

The chain first arrived in Brighton in 2013, promising what it called “a glorious riot of graffiti and sauce-slathered madness”.

Inside, the York Place venue mixes Gothic and psychedelic-rock decor in a dark, loud setting.

MEATliquor began life as a street food venture called the MEATwagon, launched by Yianni Papoutsis in 2009.

He later teamed up with Scott Collins to open their first permanent London site in 2011.

It won a cult following for its no-nonsense style and its signature Dead Hippie burger, consisting of “two French’s Mustard-fried beef patties under melted, gooey cheese.”

The chain has a number of other branches in London. A MEATliquor branch in Leeds closed permanently a few months ago.

Management has not provided a specific reason for the sudden suspension of food service at the Brighton restaurant.

It is not known if, or when, the kitchen will reopen and serve the full menu again.
