Several locals from the North Lanarkshire town took to social media to complain about a bad smell.
One person made the observation first at a community Facebook group.
The post read: “What’s the horrible stink over West End? It would make you sick.”
People were quick to agree in the comments, many of them explaining that they have also smelled the odour.

Another resident replied: “I thought I could smell something weird earlier down Motherwell Road. Smells like cow dung.”
A third added: “I can smell it down North Road as well.”
A fourth contributed: “I did smell it walking back from Tesco.”
A fifth local commented: “Howling. I had to put the windows up, even still coming in car.”
Facebook users suggested the source of the smell could be manure from the local fields.
