The event was organised by the newly formed Together Against the Far Right alliance, which includes a mix of political parties, trade unions, community groups and small businesses.
Pictures show people marching on Worthing seafront before making their way into the town centre today, February 28, accompanied by drums and other instruments.
Live music and entertainment is set to continue into the evening.

Emma Taylor-Beal, spokesperson for Stand Up To Racism Adur and Worthing, said before the event: “When communities come together in large numbers, division can be challenged.
“Across the country, people are looking for a positive alternative rooted in solidarity and fairness.
“This demonstration is about showing that Worthing stands for inclusion, compassion and unity.
“We want to build a confident, organised and welcoming movement locally that reflects the very best of our town.”

The event is supported by funding from the National Education Union (NEU) and featured a public march followed by a multi-venue festival celebrating the town’s diversity through music, food and creative performances.
Debbie Woudman, co-chair of the Worthing Green Party, said: “UK politics is severely polarised and hate crimes are rising, so it’s more important than ever to create a safe community environment.
“Those with no political affiliation, must stand in solidarity together.

“We can stop the tide of rising racism and hate being used to divide and conquer the 99 per cent of us who are ultimately good people.”
Councillor Sophie Cox, leader of Worthing Borough Council, said: “Worthing is a town built on community, kindness and looking out for one another.
“It is important we celebrate diversity and our shared commitment to being a welcoming and inclusive town. We must all work together to continue building a community where everyone feels safe, respected and valued.
“I am pleased to support local groups, artists and community representatives coming together at an event to show that Worthing is united by hope, creativity and a shared belief that everyone belongs here.”
