The Glasgow Student Assembly will bring together students from the city’s five universities and three colleges “to devise a plan to create change”.
“It is completely abhorrent and unacceptable that many of us and our peers are finding themselves struggling to get by while pursuing an education. Nobody should be choosing between heating and eating,” Isaac Baldwin, co-chair of the Glasgow University Student Left Society (GUSL), said.
The event will be held at Glasgow University.
“At the same time, our education and graduate qualifications are being devalued with declining quality in teaching and minimal contact hours.
“On top of this, mental health support is utterly inadequate and underfunded on campuses across the city – the consequences of that can be severe.”
The assembly, which will take place on March 16 at Glasgow University, has been described as an “attempt to organise against a multifaceted crisis impacting students”.
“Student’s voices are being ignored, we have to organise against that,” Baldwin added.
Assembly members will have the opportunity to create a Student’s Charter reflecting top priorities, which will then be taken to the city’s university and college managers, as well as the UK and Scottish governments.

The assembly comes as staff at the University of Strathclyde are expected to strike over plans to cut 76 jobs at the leading research institution.
Earlier in February, 80% of University and College Union (UCU) members at the university voted to back strike action on a turnout of 58%.
Bosses at the institution had previously told staff of the need to address a £35 million black hole by 2027/28.
