Three fire engines, a bulk water carrier and the technical rescue unit were in attendance just past the Cobham services before the Henshurst Road junction.

Lanes three of four remained closed approaching Gravesend East/Henshurst Road junction, but have since reopened.

It was due to a tractor pulling a trailer of hay which had caught fire.

Fire crews used hose reel jets and compressed air foam to tackle the flames. They worked at the scene with support from Kent Police and the Highways Agency.

No injuries were reported, but the fire service said one person had been checked over by paramedics as a precaution.

An earlier statement from Kent Fire and Rescue Service said: “The carriageway has been closed while firefighters work at the scene, and people are advised to check for traffic updates before travelling towards the affected area.”
