The event draws in thousands of spectators to the venue in Broomfield Road, Maidstone, each summer for a celebration of music transcending genres and eras.

Crowds trudge through the medieval grounds laden with picnic baskets, camping chairs and even candelabras to enjoy the music.

The International Gospel Choir, the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and stars of the West End are among those who have taken to the stage to perform.

The concert concludes with a spitfire fly-overs and a fireworks finale.

This year’s event is on Saturday, July 11, with tickets currently on sale. But now Leeds Castle unexpectedly announced that after 48 years, this concert will be its last.

Fiona Pollard CBE, managing director of Heritage Events, said: “For everyone involved, delivering the Leeds Castle Concert has been a real honour.

“We’ve shared some exceptional evenings with wonderful audiences and, after more than a decade, we’ve decided that the 2026 concert will be the last.

“Our focus now is on bringing everything people love about this event together – the music, the atmosphere and the magic of this place – for one final truly memorable celebration.”

A spokesman for Leeds Castle explained that the 2026 event will serve as a final tribute to both the event and the loyal supporters who have attended over the years. Audiences can look forward to a thoughtfully curated programme, featuring a full live orchestra and many beloved musical moments.

As always, the evening will culminate with a spectacular fireworks display reflected across the Castle’s moat, creating an unforgettable final celebration.

John Rigby, the concert’s long-standing conductor and creative heart, added: “There is something truly special about performing with the RPO on stage at the Leeds Castle Concert. The music feels woven into the place itself, and the atmosphere is unlike anywhere else — from the flags waving and the cannons firing to the final fireworks lighting up the Castle.

“The 2026 concert will be full of warmth and joy – a night for everyone who has ever stood on those lawns, singing along as the sun sets.”

Looking ahead, Leeds Castle is considering options for a future live music experience, recognising that the live music landscape and audience expectations have evolved over time. Any future plans will be developed carefully and shared once confirmed.

A spokesperson for Leeds Castle added: “We are extremely grateful to everyone who has supported the Leeds Castle Concert over the years, and we would also like to thank Heritage Events Ltd for their role in delivering the event.

“The 2026 concert will be an opportunity to celebrate its history and the many memories it has created. We will also be taking time to consider what form any future live music experience at the Castle might take.”

Further details of the 2026 concert programme and theme will be announced in due course.

Tickets are on sale now with early bird prices of £56 (general admission) and £66 (seated).

This will be the final opportunity to experience a summer concert at Leeds Castle in its current format.
