Police have released a teenager on bail following the incident
Police have urged the victim of an attempted theft to come forward following the incident which occurred in south Belfast on Thursday. The attempted handbag snatch occurred when two males on electric bikes tried to take the item from a woman in the Dublin Road area which resulted in her being knocked to the ground.
The two males then made off in the direction of east Belfast before police caught up with one of the suspects after a short pursuit. The 17-year-old was apprehended by officers in the Mersey Street area where he was arrested on suspicion of theft, along with several motoring offences.
PSNI confirmed that he has since been released on bail so they can continue their enquiries.
Sergeant Graham said: “We would urge the victim of this incident, who is yet to come forward, to get in touch with police. “We’re also appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the incident or to anyone with footage that could assist enquiries and identify the second male, to contact police on 101 quoting reference 326 12/02/25. Alternatively, you can submit a report online using the non-emergency reporting form or contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 or online.”
