The waste, which has accumulated at the former Longbrook Pavilion site off Hook Lane in Bognor Regis, had sparked concerns from nearby residents, who contacted officials.
However, the agency has since confirmed that it has spoken to the landowner, and the waste is being cleared from the site.
A spokesperson for the Environment Agency said: “We have visited the site and spoken to the landowner and operator to ensure the waste operation complies with environmental regulations.
“During our most recent visit on February 3, 2026, we found that waste is being cleared from the site. We will continue to monitor the situation.
“Anyone who suspects illegal waste activity can report it to the Environment Agency on 0800 807060 or anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
Planning permission was being sought at the site for the erection of eight dwellings.
However, multiple objection letters to the plans referenced a “mountain of waste” that had accumulated, and drone imagery showed piles of waste at the location, including wood, fridges and bathtubs.
The plans have since been rejected by Arun District Council, which said it had not been demonstrated that the proposals would not increase flood risks.
